LTC Engagement Day

here are some days you simply want to hold on to—and September 18 at Meighen Health Centre's LTC Engagement Day Ontario Long Term Care Association was one of them. 💛

All we wanted to do was capture every moment.

MHC was filled with voices of joy, laughter, music, conversation and connection. Everywhere I looked, there was something beautiful happening—our residents smiling and participating, families sharing special moments, volunteers giving their time with so much heart, staff celebrating alongside them, and community partners connecting with the people who make our home so special.

It was an honour to welcome MPP Stephanie Smyth and Councillor Josh Matlow to Meighen Health Centre. Having our elected representatives spend time with our residents, families, volunteers and staff—and help recognize members of our community through the certificate presentations—made the celebration even more meaningful.

From the live music and resident art to the Tovertafel activities, community BBQ and recognition of our residents, family members and community contributors, the afternoon reminded us what long-term care is truly about: people, relationships, dignity, purpose and belonging.

We were also grateful to welcome representatives from our emergency services Toronto Fire Services, Toronto Paramedic Services , Toronto Police Service and The Salvation Army, Toronto Grace Health Centre and our many community partners.

But what stayed with me most were the little moments—the smiles, conversations, residents enjoying the music, families proudly standing beside their loved ones, volunteers connecting with residents, and our staff coming together to make the day special.

A building can provide care, but it is the residents, families, volunteers and staff within it who create a home.
September 18 was a beautiful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together.
